Our History

  • 10 October 2000 The Vilnius Association for the People with Epilepsy - EPI Association - was registered. 
  • 2001-2002 A concept for wellness and rehabilitation of the people with epilepsy was created.
  • 7 July 2002 The concept was confirmed by the order Nr 362 of the Health Ministry and the Social Security and Labour Ministry of the Republic of Lithuania; the persons responsible for the implementation of the concept were appointed.
  • 2003 The model for services network in Vilnius region, which includes all necessary medical and non-medical treatment services when carrying out diagnostics, therapeutic and surgical treatment, medical ambulatory and in-clinic rehabilitation, as well as social and professional rehabilitation, was created. After the model of the integrated service network is implemented in other regions as well, the people with epilepsy will be able to get the whole complex of services in accordance with the prescribed treatment.
  • 2004 after evaluation of the results of the Vilnius EPI Association's activities, it has become evident that it is necessary to develop the innovative experience in integrating the people with epilepsy in other regions of the country, and to do that in a systematic way, following a unified methodological approach.
  • 12 November 2004 the Lithuanian Association for Integration of People with Epilepsy – LESIA was registered.

LESIA unified associations of the people with epilepsy from six regions of Lithuanian, that have a legal status and whose aim is to seek, in a systematic and methodologically unified way, to advance the processes of the integration of the people with epilepsy into society.

LESIA represents and protect rights of 24000 people, including 4000 children, with epilepsy in Lithuania.
